- Our Mission
- To provide affordable and accessible child
care to all families in our community.
- To emphasize that families can forever
influence their children and that we support families to the
greatest extent possible in the promotion of healthy behaviors
among their children.
- To foster community-wide prevention of
negative behavior among our youth.
- Our View
- The Coal Country Hang-Out Youth Center (CCHYC)
is a 501 (c) (3) organization that began in 2001 as a response
to the social and human service needs in Northern Cambria
County. The Coal Country Hang-Out Youth Center is designed to
offer programs needed to counteract the devastation experienced
by families in a geographically isolated and economically
deprived area. CCHYC’s goal is to continue and to expand a
holistic approach to educational, cultural, and spiritual
devastation experienced by families as the result of the
collapse of it’s primary industry, coal mining. These young
people are increasingly at risk in an emerging global economy
with its attendant language and cultural diversities.
- How we Support
Children in Need
- The Teen Center provides recreational space
including a basketball/volleyball court, pool tables, video
games, stereo, 60 inch TV with VCR/DVD players. FaithTech
computer site provides computers, internet access, free classes,
and supervised lab time. After school and summer enrichment
programs provide free instruction in the arts (dance, theatre,
puppetry, and videography), and the environmental sciences. The
Daycare serves 40 children during the hours of 5:45am - 6:15pm
Monday - Friday. The Center works together with Child Care
Information Services to provide subsidy for qualifying families.
